Josh Bersin, Principal and Founder at Bersin by Deloitte, recently released Predictions for 2015: Redesigning the Organization for a Rapidly Changing World."
As one of the report’s “Ten Key Trends for 2015,” Bersin identifies the need for companies to “Invest, Refocus, and Redesign Talent Acquisition—Leveraging Network Recruiting, Brand Reach, and New Technologies.”
It's a topic that's right up our street, and as we read through, we were delighted to see that much of the research-based advice Bersin deals out to companies in this section, is very much in keeping with the thinking behind and functionality of Clinch software.
For example . . .
1. "Developing a Strong Pool of Candidates through Relationship Management"
“This means marketing the company well, attracting interested candidates well before a job is posted . . . and continuously communicating well with candidates.” — Predictions for 2015: Redesigning the Organization for a Rapidly Changing World, Bersin by Deloitte / Josh Bersin, January 2015.
Anyone who knows Clinch will know that we have been pushing the importance of “starting the hiring conversation earlier” for quite some time.
The science behind it is simple. By beginning the process of engaging and gathering candidates today, rather than waiting until such time that a position opens up, employers not only reduce the time needed to find a new hire, they enjoy a hiring process that’s significantly cheaper, too.
With a pool of candidates on hand at any given time, you reduce the need for and eliminate the fees associated with bringing in an external recruiter.
Clinch gives employers the tools to create and embed on their own company website, dynamic “About” and “Team” pages. Through content that is designed to attract, engage, and inform an audience as to why this particular company is a great place to work, it means that at any given time, visitors to the site are forming a positive impression of a company as an employer. This, then, increases their likelihood of enquiring about working there now, or further down the line.
2. "Managing your employment brand."
A strong employer brand is integral to a company’s ability to attract and hire the right candidates. Clinch forces companies to think about their employer brand (step one in the process of managing it) by giving you the tools to showcase on a careers page that’s visually engaging and informative, everything that makes your company a great place to work.
Bersin highlights the reality of how “The concepts of “employment brand” and “employee engagement” have merged into one—employees communicate your brand externally every day, whether you like it or not.”
With a page editor that encourages and facilitates the inclusion of quotes from your employees about why they love working where they do, Clinch software begins that process of centralising the conversation that forms the bones of your employer brand.
“How can you improve sourcing in 2015?”
The report highlights, amongst others, two approaches that will become essential for companies seeking to hire in 2015:
- "Companies should focus on culture, fit, and employee engagement as a way to magnetically attract the right people."
Clinch began to realise the value of “culture” - both understanding and communicating it - early on in our R&D phase last year. That’s why we built a product that lets companies leverage their company culture to attract great hires. How? Through the creation of those unique careers pages that showcase a company’s “mission, purpose, leadership team” and values.
- "Broaden and expand your job descriptions."
"More and more companies tell us that the traditional “job description” is both inaccurate and not always attractive to candidates." —Predictions for 2015: Redesigning the Organization for a Rapidly Changing World, Bersin by Deloitte / Josh Bersin, January 2015.
Since day one, we here at Clinch have been preaching about the need for employers to re-think their approach to writing job descriptions and related careers material. Honesty and transparency about who you are as a company and the kind of person you’re looking to hire is vital. As is putting more of a human touch on things. That’s why our job listing template lets you include avatars of team members, as well as a means for prospective candidates to get in touch directly.
Focus on Culture
According to Bersin, not only is 2015 “the year to take a broad, strategic look at your talent acquisition strategy,” as part of that process, employers need to be aware that “this is the year to focus on culture.”
We couldn’t agree more. Not only is understanding and communicating your culture essential to attracting the right kinds of candidates, it plays a vital role in improving employee engagement and retention, too, which, ultimately, should be priorities for every company, through 2015 and beyond.
