When it comes to the multi-media event scene, South by Southwest® is the cream of the crop. Fostering creative and professional growth alike, it is the "premier destination for discovery," and a highpoint on the calendars of all those tech, film, and music industry professionals fortunate enough to attend.
Needless to say, no sooner was the invitation extended to Clinch to experience and exhibit at SXSW® 2015 as an Enterprise Ireland delegate, than we had the saddlebags packed and the stetson firmly planted.
Austin Texas, here we come!
Of course, I use "we" in the royal sense here. Flying the flag for Clinch at SXSW was a one-person job, and it was our VP Business Development and Sales who lucked out with this particular assignment. Shane joined team members from other Irish companies including NewsWhip, Pulsate, Soundwave, and Teamwork, all of whom were also in Austin as part of the #IrelandSXSW contingent.
In the meantime, the rest of us kept things ticking over back here in Dublin.
And there's plenty to be getting on with.
In fact, the SXSW® gig couldn't have come at a better time for us. As we gear up for Clinch: Release 3, the trip offered us a valuable opportunity to meet and talk with not only those in our target market, but those who know and influence that market, too.
Shane's chat with @RecruitingDaily Executive Editor and self-proclaimed HR & Recruiting Nerd, Matt Charney, as part of the SXSW Mentor Sessions series, was a particular highlight, not least because it wrapped up with Matt offering to impart some of his wisdom to me via Skype.
As a relative newcomer to the world of recruitment marketing content creation, I am more than grateful for this opportunity, and look forward to chatting to Matt later this week!
Lars Schmidt, Josh Bersin, Robin Schooling, and Bill Boorman were just a few of the other HR luminaries Shane had the pleasure of chatting to over the course of his time in Austin, thanks in no small part to his attending the wonderful TalentNet Interactive conference, presented in partnership with Dice and Whole Foods Market.
What We Learned
Whether it came from talking to leaders in the HR and recruiting industries, or those managing companies and overseeing hiring, the message was the same:
Some companies have an attraction problem that manifests in volume of candidates, or lack thereof. Others have the volume, but not the quality when it's defined by culture fit.
